The New Economy Coalition (NEC) seeks a talented leader to plan, direct and manage its programs, as our current Program Director is transitioning out of the role in Summer 2015. The Program Director will develop, monitor, and assess NEC’s programs; direct NEC’s engagement with it 100+ member organizations; manage and inspire a team of four program staff; raise funds to support NEC’s programmatic work, in partnership with the Development Director; and build collaborative relationships with donors, coalition members, and other key stakeholders.
The person in this role will direct NEC’s programs team, and will serve on the staff leadership team along with all other director-level staff and the executive director. This position reports to the Executive Director.
The job is full-time. Proximity to NEC’s office in Boston, MA is a factor in our decision, but remote applicants (particularly those based in Philadelphia or New York) are considered. NEC hopes to hire someone for this position by July 15, 2015 to begin soon thereafter.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and manage NEC’s programmatic work
- Plan, monitor, assess, and improve NEC’s existing programs, including:
- NEC’s network of more than 100 organizations;
- convenings like CommonBound and New Economy Week;
- NEC’s regranting program;
- supporting community reinvestment organizing;
- and emerging efforts to develop a new economy meta-narrative.
- Identify new programs and opportunities for NEC
- Develop and implement an annual plan and budget for NEC’s programs, in collaboration with NEC’s Executive Director and staff and in accordance with the overall organizational budget and strategic plan.
- Develop and implement an emergent strategy for NEC’s programs, consulting with stakeholders and adapting plans and budgets as the context shifts.
- Develop and manage an overall workplan for the programs team.
- Direct and manage NEC’s programs team, including managing all programs hires and directly supervising a portion of programs staff.
- Provide regular reporting on NEC’s program to key stakeholders, including coalition members, NEC’s board, and donors.
- In partnership with the Manager of Coalition Engagement, direct staff engagement with coalition members, including through NEC’s annual members meeting.
- Stay current with the relevant trends and research on the following:
- network-based organizing
- new economy strategies
- social movements, particularly those concerned with racial, economic, and environmental justice
Support NEC’s development team in raising funds for NEC and its programs
- Serve as a lead fundraiser for the organization’s development efforts
- Work with the Development Director and Executive Director to implement NEC’s development plan, including:
- writing and editing grants and reports
- occasional development-related travel
- creating and maintaining relationships with donors and foundations
Serve on NEC’s staff leadership team (SLT), which plays a structural role in operation and management of the organization
- Support the SLT in all its duties, including but not limited to participation in:
- leading regular strategic and emergent planning of organizational activities
- regular financial and operational reporting
- budget development and monitoring
- overseeing hiring, development, and growth of director-level staff
- implementing all operational and administrative policies and plans
- All other reasonable tasks as requested by executive director and others on the staff leadership team

SALARY RANGE (annual, U.S. $): $50,000+, Salary will be competitive with other nonprofit organizations and commensurate with experience.
