About Studio [Y]

Building upon the foundational work of the social innovation programming at MaRS, including Social Innovation Generation (SiG), Studio Y is a provincial youth leadership program mobilizing young talent dedicated to tackling social and environmental challenges. Studio Y provides a rich immersive leadership training program, incorporating critical entrepreneurship skills, coupled with hands-on coaching and mentoring from leading innovators.

What is the Studio [Y] Fellowship?

An intensive 8-month fellowship for young people aged 18-29 – to develop into the types of learners, leaders, and innovators our world needs to navigate 21st-century challenges.Each year we invite a cohort of 25 Fellows to join us at the MaRS Discovery District, Canada’s largest innovation hub, for a once-in-a-lifetime journey of work and learning. Position Summary

The Studio Y Associate works with the Core Team to support the Fellows and the design, delivery and evolution of the Fellowship program. We pride ourselves on being a fluid, agile, experimental and adaptable team.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Provide personalized program support for Fellows throughout their experience including but not limited to facilitating access to resources, networks, and opportunities and providing coaching support
  • Provide delivery support to a leading-edge youth development initiative
  • Plan and coordinate events and experiences for the participants and the broader community, including but not limited to community days, reflection days, retreats, project workshops and guest speakers
  • Lead ad hoc projects and initiatives that support the development of the program
  • Manage the program calendar and scheduling of all required meetings with stakeholders
  • Actively engage in the evaluation and evolution of program elements
  • Proactively identify and fill in of gaps in the Core Team’s efforts required to achieve success

Candidate Profile

An important part of our work at Studio Y is modelling the type of leadership and mindsets we are developing in our Fellows. We are looking for a dynamic Associate who:

  • Thrives in a diverse community/workplace and has experience actively engaging with communities
  • Applies design thinking, systems thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset in their work
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and one-on-one skills and is comfortable giving and receiving feedback and coaching
  • Has experience managing and executing challenging projects – experience working on a start-up initiative or venture is considered an asset.
  • Is detail-oriented and has experience handling time-sensitive logistics
  • Embraces a growth mindset and has experience with ambiguity, complexity, experimentation and failure
  • Facilitation, event management, storytelling and education skills/experience are considered an asset
