Education:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline is required.

Experience:

  • Experience working with stakeholders, as well as building and maintaining long-term relationships.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and abilities:

  • Must have superb interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of all ranks inside and outside the university.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must be results oriented and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience in the philanthropic sector is highly desired but not essential.

Key responsibilities:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a dynamic, creative, innovative and accomplished community engagement leader to join our team. As the Community Engagement Associate, you will play a leading role in establishing, strengthening and increasing meaningful connections between the University of Manitoba community and key stakeholders. You will be a champion for the University in the community. You are client-focused and work collaboratively to deliver on priorities.

Specifically you will:

  • Play a key role in the development and implementation of a university-wide community engagement framework in direct alignment to the University of Manitoba Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and implement strategies and actions for the University’s direct engagement with the community and are responsible for identifying and facilitating existing and emerging opportunities for staff and students to participate in outreach programs and for leveraging the university’s connection with ethno-cultural communities in Manitoba and worldwide.
  • Work to celebrate and promote the impact of the university’s partnerships in communities here at home and around the world and will play a key role in ensuring the University of Manitoba community and key stakeholders are provided with opportunities to engage in the planning process around key initiatives (e.g. Southwood redevelopment).
  • Be responsible for ensuring all community engagement initiatives and activities are developed and implemented in accordance with recognized best practices to achieve results.
  • Be responsible for the ongoing creation and maintenance of a university-wide inventory of existing community engagement based on the university’s academic, research and service mission.
  • Work to increase the diversity of outreach programs across all community stakeholder groups and promote the University of Manitoba as an opportunity for community members to develop their knowledge, skills and pursue their interests.
  • Identify and promote strategic engagement of the University’s external champions and key stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic advice on the University’s community engagement activities to the Director of GCE and to other members of the Executive Team, including Deans and other unit heads.
  • Engage with colleagues across the university to foster and develop strategic and positive relationships with community groups and institutions.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities for collaboration, partnerships and engagement, including coalition building with similar minded groups.
  • Lead the planning and coordinate the implementation and measurement of community outreach activities, including the University’s “Visionary Conversations Speaker Series” – a series of issues-focused conversations with the community.
