Winnipeg Food Policy Coordinator

Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a part time Winnipeg Food Policy Coordinator for a 6 month term with the potential for renewal. This position would be based out of Winnipeg, starting November 1, 20 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Reporting to the Executive Director
  • Develop and initiate an implementation plan for the FMM Community Food Assessment recommendations
  • Support the development of a Winnipeg Food Policy Council
  • Support the development of a Winnipeg Food Strategy
  • Develop a Food Matters Manitoba food policy strategy
  • Identify funding opportunities
  • Consult and engage with a range of stakeholders
  • Facilitate local food procurement policy development and implementation
  • Coordinate a Manitoba Food Security network gathering
  • Assisting with other tasks as required

ABOUT YOU:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to community food security, constructive engagement principles, and community development approaches
  • Experience in community and public engagement including meeting and group facilitation and event planning
  • Working knowledge of Manitoba municipal and provincial governments and understanding of how to change constructively engage with diverse partners to create public policy change
  • Experience working with elected officials, public service, and partner agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that can be adapted to various audiences, formats, and styles including government briefs, news releases, presentations, and online communications
  • Ability to work well within collaborative structures and coalitions
  • Post-secondary college or university degree in a related field ( planning, politics, public admin etc.)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, independent, professional, and able to work in a flexible, open-office environment on an area with multiple priorities
  • Proposal writing experience an asset
  • Self-motivated and a strong team player
  • Experience in collaborative engagement
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle is considered an asset
