An exciting opportunity exists for a Housing Outreach Worker with Atira Women's Resource Society. We offer a challenging and

Understanding the dynamics of violence against women and children and the intersectionality of oppressions within a feminist framework and being able to apply this understanding in your day-to-day practice is mandatory.

Qualifications:

Minimum two-years’ experience as a front-line support worker working with women affected by violence/abuse, poverty and
homelessness; Experience working with tenancy issues/the RTA & RTB and experience in supporting women who have been
homeless to find housing is mandatory; At least one year working in an outreach capacity is also required as well as previous work
experience in the Downtown Eastside. Must have a well-developed analysis of the impact/legacy of colonization and assimilation and the resulting impact on First Nations, Métis and Inuit women; must be comfortable working with women who are struggling with substance use and/or mental & spiritual wellness and understand and be at ease working within a harm reduction framework.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work with women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in an effort to assist them to secure safe, affordable, appropriate long-term housing
• Provide ongoing support in an effort to help women maintain their housing
• Build and maintain relationships with landlords in an effort to support women to keep their housing and landlords to consider renting to other women.
• Refer women to income assistance and other relevant support services
• Provide accompaniments as appropriate/required
• Work with other service providers and BC Housing to improve the quality of housing services
• Keep and submit, as required, accurate statistical information
• Maintain up-to-date wait lists

Education:

A degree, diploma or certificate in a related subject and/or relevant skill-based training is required, either through programs like those offered at the Justice Institute or the Native Education College and/or through volunteer training or relevant workplace experience. Formal education/credentials will count only as much as work experience.

Additional Requisites:

• A valid First Aid certificate is required.
• A valid Food Safe certificate is required.
• Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is required (achieved or upgraded in past 12 months)
• All positions are subject to a criminal records review
• Must have a class five drivers’ license and a clean driving record
