East Scarborough Storefront, a project of Tides Canada, is a unique community organization in the priority neighbourhood of Kingston Galloway/Orton Park.  The Storefront uses a Connected Communities approach to community development; this means that our main focus is to leverage the power of collaboration to support people and build community. Storefront staff act as a bridge, catalyst and facilitator between and among community members, services and resources.

The Position

Playing a key role in The Storefront’s Community Wealth Strategy, the successful candidate will plan and oversee effective development and implementation of employment supports and strategies for local residents; monitor data and information; take a leading role in reporting and business planning related to employment supports; work directly with community members, employers and organizations to link residents to employment supports and opportunities; and support relationships with local employers.

Responsibilities include:

Supports for Community Members:

  • Coordinate continuous improvement to operations and work processes to provide quality seamless  support to community members
  • Work collaboratively with staff to identify barriers to employment and develop strategies to facilitate access to job readiness supports
  • Work directly with people seeking employment: intakes, employment assessments, employment action plans, and appropriate follow ups
  • Coordinate the delivery of employment workshops and other supports
  • Ensure effective processes are in place for appropriate job placements
  • Oversee resource centre management
  • Facilitate collaborative work and support strong partnerships with local employment services, community agencies, training partners and employers to support local hiring

Employment Ontario Coordination:

  • Oversee operations and ensure that Employment Ontario (EO) requirements and Storefront's philosophy and approach are optimized.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies and processes within the EO framework to improve outcomes for local residents
  • Interpret EO policies to ensure effective delivery of programs and train front line staff
  • Undertake EO reporting and annual business planning
  • Ensure that processes are in place to effectively meet EO targets 

Information Management:

  • Ensure gathering of feedback and evaluation information from residents and partners
  • Oversee maintenance of database(s) and ensure all paperwork required by Employment Ontario is complete and accurate
  • Coordinate the tracking of EO incentive and support reimbursements
  • Review and approve submissions for wage and personal support reimbursements
  • Work with Tides Canada staff to prepare funder reports and audit materials

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education in a relevant field
  • 2-5 years’ experience supporting people seeking employment or equivalent experience
  • Strong financial data management and attention to detail
  • Experience managing reporting deadlines
  • Strong computer proficiency; database skills are considered an asset
  • Experience in an Employment Ontario context is a strong asset
  • Understanding of labour market trends and resources
  • A thorough understanding of community work, and a demonstrated ability to apply an empathetic and holistic approach to assisting community members
  • Demonstrated ability to create inclusive and non-judgemental environments
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Comfort with group and workshop facilitation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility to perform a wide variety of tasks

Full time Monday to Friday, schedule to be determined, occasional evening and weekend work required.
