The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. The centre works from empowerment, inclusion and harm reduction philosophies. WCWRC is seeking a Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Worker (NISW) to complete a one year term (with possibility of extension). Reporting to the Executive Director, the NISW will work with newcomers to the West Central community, to assist with a variety of settlement services.

Salary: | $19-$21 per hour depending on experience + benefits |
Time requirement: | 37.5 hrs per week, must be available for some evening and weekend programming |

Duties & Responsibilities
- Support Newcomers and their families with settlement services, including conducting formal and informal needs assessments, home visits, office visits and accompanying participants to appointments and meetings as required
- Assist participants in the completion of forms, the navigation of systems and to identify relevant community resources as required
- Deliver programming, field trips and information sessions, including conversation circles, family support circles, sewing circle and other programs as required
- Community outreach through presentations and workshops at community agencies, schools, etc.
- Network with community stakeholders and attend meetings in the community on behalf of the centre and NISW program
- Maintain accurate records of program activities, participant files, statistical data and report monthly on all activity
Qualifications Required:
Essential
- Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Inner City Studies, or similar; a combination of experience and education may be considered
- Strong understanding of the Newcomer experience
- Must be comfortable working effectively cross-culturally and with participants with low English levels
- Demonstrated understanding of marginalization, diversity and inclusion framework
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Must be able to work from a participant focused perspective
- Professional and responsible with sensitive and confidential issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong facilitation skills
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Comfortable with Outlook and Microsoft office
- Must have clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks
Preferred
- Knowledge of Arabic is strongly preferred. Additional languages spoken, particularly languages represented in the West Central community are also an asset.
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
