Background:

The Aboriginal Vision for the North End Community Engagement Liaison will report directly to the Aboriginal Vision Coordinator. The Community Engagement Liaison position is to provide coordination and facilitation for all activities and programming that work to create and implement an Aboriginal vision for the renewal of the North End of Winnipeg, especially the region surrounding Selkirk Avenue. The successful candidate will maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment within the Aboriginal Vision Gathering Place, while providing support to the Aboriginal Vision Coordinator in the form of: community outreach, volunteer recruitment & coordination, organization and planning of community events, maintaining a vast pool of community resources, general building maintenance, and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience working in the Aboriginal community/North End of Winnipeg
  • Demonstrated experience working in community development
  • Strong motivational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including effective use of computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, electronic email and social media
  • Community service orientated to effectively meet needs in a timely conscientious manner
  • Strong public presentation skills
  • Be a team player that encourage an environment that fosters effective results
  • Respectful in order to engage people and build healthy relationships
  • Flexible in order to respond effectively and positively in diverse relationships
  • Maintain a high level of independence and self-initiative
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Preference will be given to a North End resident with strong links to the community
  • Understanding of aboriginal values and community issues
  • Valid class 5 drivers and access to a vehicle would be an asset
  • Subject to Criminal/Prior Contact and Child Abuse checks
