The Gang Action Interagency Network (GAIN) is looking to hire for the Coordinator position which is 37.5 hours per week. GAIN is looking for someone to coordinate the network which is comprised of service providers, not-for-profits, community members, and government and law enforcement. The coordinator will be tasked with engaging the network and working to achieve gang strategy/ exit strategy for the city of Winnipeg. They will also play a central role in connecting all services for youth in gangs or at risk of joining gangs. We are looking for a dynamic, well-organized leader.

Primary responsibilities include:

Gang Strategy/ Gang Exit Strategy:

  • Develop framework, partnerships and structure for Winnipeg-based gang strategy/gang exit strategy
  • Develop implementation of those strategies
  • Develop expansion of strategy for the entire province

Research:

  • Track our interventions and stories so that we can bring them forward to funders and provide tangible evidence that G.A.I.N work is recognized within the community
  • To keep the research report alive (G.A.I.N and its members should keep building on the report findings and utilizing it whenever possible)
  • Develop new research and compile research to support a gang strategy / exit strategy

Membership: Work to solidify network membership and ensure all active members are informed and participate in GAIN initiative
Data Collection and Mapping: Oversee the data collection and mapping project to completion
Mentorship: Support the committee and develop and implement action plan
24 hour safe spaces: Support the committee and develop and implement action plan
GAIN Committees and Executive: Support the committee and develop and implement action plan
Public education and engagement: Develop awareness and education for the city of Winnipeg and gangs and the solutions
Parents and Youth supports: Act as a reference to support parents and youth with gang issues and exiting

Requirements:

  • Significant leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and conflict management skills with the ability to provide informal mediation, support and mentorship
  • Experience working with youth involved in gangs
  • Experience working with youth with addictions or mental health issues(especially FASD)
  • Strong computer and professional writing skills; ability to prepare proposals and reports
  • Understanding of barriers that exist for Indigenous and Newcomer youth and their families
  • Understanding of resources available for youth within Winnipeg
  • Understanding of culture, cultural identities and resources within Winnipeg, especially Indigenous and Newcomer peoples
  • Enjoy working with a team and individually
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to provide a current criminal record check and child and adult abuse registry check
  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings and some weekends
  • Valid Manitoba Drivers Licence

Assets:

  • Current First aid, CPR training, ASIST training
  • Experience working with LGBTT* youth
  • Understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice System
  • Understanding of Restorative Justice theory and practices
  • Class 4 Drivers Licence
  • People person

Hours and remuneration:

The Employee agrees to fulfill a 37.5 hour work week. GAIN agrees to pay $24-$26 per hour for a 37.5 hour work week on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked including supporting and resourcing staff in the overnight periods.
