Marlene Street Community Resource Centre (MSCRC) is a resource centre in St. Vital, Winnipeg, located in a Manitoba Housing complex. We are seeking a Youth Worker. This is a term contract position for 20 hours/week at $13.00 per hour starting the first week of July 2016 and until December 2016 (with opportunity for extension in January 2017). The hours for this position will be Monday to Friday, 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, with the occasional schedule variation. The applicant must be available to work the occasional evening or weekend.
Reporting to the MSCRC Executive Director, the Youth Worker will plan and facilitate all children’s programs at MSCRC and in partnership with Lavallee School. Duties include but not limited to: planning and delivering programs to children, providing frontline leadership and mentorship to children, liaise with school and other service providers in the area, create monthly calendars, write monthly reports and shop once per week for program supplies and food.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, as well as relating to and/or communicating with parents
- Experience working with children living in challenging socio-economic circumstances; experience with children who have behavioral issues
- Experience with children’s programming
- Strong communication skills; capacity to balance creating a welcoming environment with implementing rules and boundaries
- Knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues and demonstrated skills working cross culturally
- Criminal record check, child abuse registry check, CPR/First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain them
- Please note: all applicants must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license
Assets:
- Some education or degree pertaining to Youth Work, Education or Human Social Services
- Can work individually as well as cooperatively with others
- Creativity and willingness to think of new ways to enhance youth programs
- Background recruiting, working with and supervising volunteers
