One-year contract, based on approximately 32.00 hours/week with regular payments upon invoicing and achievement of project contract objectives. Based in Cannington, ON plus some travel throughout rural Central Ontario.
Background:
SERA Community Ventures is seeking a Rural Project Facilitator, who will design and implement a strategy and consultation process to pilot research and engage rural communities in the assessment of using a Social Enterprise approach to improve economic and social development; using the information to design and develop the components for a sustainable model for a future Social Enterprise Rural Alliance. The Facilitator will interact with various rural stakeholders and facilitate community conversations to identify local assets and opportunities. The development of this pilot project will inform the conditions and best approaches for social enterprise to be a viable alternative for rural community economic development. The project facilitator will:
- Develop working partnerships with three rural communities
- Document local community assets and challenges
- Implement and facilitate community conversations.
- Create an effective platform to engage and communicate with rural communities.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
- Report frequently to the SERA CV Board
Expected project outcomes are:
- Produce a feasible strategy to engage and address rural communities’ socio-economic needs.
- Identify successful and unsuccessful practices (Social Enterprise)
- Identify and implement resources and tools to support rural community projects.
- Develop the foundations of a future rural alliance with most appropriated structure
Applicant should have experience with:
- small-town rural community economic development (CED)
- social enterprise community development approaches
- asset-based community development theory and practice
- working collaboratively with a supervising board
- meeting deadlines for project deliverables
- skill at meeting facilitation
- community engagement and
- strategic planning
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of community economic development and social enterprise obtained through the completion of a university degree or equivalent experience in community economic development.
- Demonstrated competency and experience in strategic planning and public consultation, preferably working with rural communities
- Strong social media and communication skills
- Previous community development, project facilitation, and research experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and presentation applications and experience with the use of social media
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in an independent environment
- Problem solving skills
- Self-directed and energetic
- Valid Class G driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for business purposes
Terms and Conditions:
Beginning: June 6, 2016
Ending: June 5, 2017 (maximum)
By contract: An average of 32 hours/week at $30.00/hour to be invoiced by Project Facilitator
Main office: Work office in Cannington, ON - employee is expected to do some traveling and be allowed to do some work from home.
