The Addictions Counsellor is a member of the Women’s Support and Housing Team and provides direct services to the participants of the Women’s Support and Housing Program at the North End Women’s Centre.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or certificate in the social services field
  • Experience providing long term, short term, and/or crisis counselling to women who have experienced addiction
  • Experience in the development, organization, and facilitation of groups for women
  • Experience working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience working in a community based setting in the North End of Winnipeg
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with indigenous people particularly in terms of the historical context, traditions, teachings as well as the unique barriers indigenous women face
  • Knowledge of the resources available in the community to women experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or addictions is considered an asset
  • Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a safe vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Register Check

Responsibilities

  • To provide counselling to participants in the Women’s Support and Housing Program (caseload of 12-15 women)
  • To create and evaluate workable treatment plans based on assessment of participant need and stage of recovery
  • To plan and facilitate/co-facilitate ongoing Women’s Support and Housing Program groups
  • To assist participants in accessing and connecting to community resources that will help meet their basic needs and assist with building capacity
  • To encourage participants to advocate for themselves and advocate on their behalf as required
  • Administrative and reporting duties

Job Status: Full Time, Term (May 2016 – March 31, 2017 with possibility of extension, dependent on funding)
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30)
Start Date: May 2016
Salary Range: $ 17- $21 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)
