Summer Youth Program Facilitator

The objective of the position is to act in a supportive role for a group of youth between the ages of 12 and 17 as they develop, implement, and run their own cooperative business. The youth put their skills and resources together to create a small business which may offer a multitude of services within their community. These services may include, but are not limited to: domestic or commercial cleaning, store inventory, garden and lawn care, car washes, interior or exterior painting, etc. As a Program Facilitator the successful candidate will act as an onsite mentor to the youth; supporting and educating them as they learn to operate their business.

*This position is contingent on funding. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and a student returning to school Length of contract TBD.

Qualifications

  • Computer, software and business administration an asset
  • Strong communication skills
  • Capable to manage and develop work opportunities
  • Able to work weekends or evenings, as required
  • Past experience working with children or youth
  • Past experience developing programs

Facilitator Tasks

  • Make a business plan
  • Promote the project /marketing
  • Coordinate aspects of human resources
  • Make presentations
  • Prepare a final report

Training provided

  • Introduction to the process of developing a co-operative business project
  • Learn the co-operative philosophy and promote the project/marketing
  • Gain hands on experience on the social and economic effect of a co-operative
