Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a Community Food Facilitator beginning July 2016. The Community Food Facilitator works with Food Matters Manitoba’s North End programs with corner stores and community agencies to increase the availability of healthy food in the community. The Facilitator will also assist in the evaluation and final report writing for the Our Food Our Health Our Culture project.
The position is a six month term with the possibility of renewal (dependent on funding) based out of Winnipeg, 35 hours per week and $16 per hour and reports to the Our Food Our Health Our Culture Project Coordinator.
Responsibilities Include:
- Implement the North End Healthy Eating initiative, including liaising with participating retailers, creating project materials, and developing new approaches to encourage healthy eating in stores.
- Facilitate a weekly cultural cooking class for youth and support community agencies implementing cooking programs
- Assist in the evaluation and report writing of the Our Food Our Health Our Culture project
- Assist in the coordination of the 2016 Our Food Our Health Our Culture Youth Gathering
- Develop resources and materials that document best practices of project activities
- Nurture strong relationships with North End partners and other key stakeholders
- Participate in community groups such as Winnipeg Foodshare Co-op and North End Food Security Network
- Support the implementation of other FMM North End programs, such as cooking classes, as required
- Other duties as assigned.
About You:
The successful applicant will:
- Have experience with community development and community economic development
- Strong understanding of food security issues in Winnipeg
- Have experience developing and maintaining community partnerships
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills
- Experience with evaluation is an asset
- Experience offering food programs to youth is an asset
- Self-motivated and a strong team player
- A valid driver’s license
