Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a Public Outreach Intern for an internship from July 11, 2016 to January 27th, 2017. The Public Outreach Intern will work to develop materials to engage public audiences, participate in events to share about FMM’s work, and create tools for public outreach.

This Public Outreach Internship is offered as part of Food Matters Manitoba’s Good Food Internship Program and is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Internships pay $16 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay) for 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop public outreach materials, including videos and photos
  • Identify opportunities for FMM to participate in public events
  • Provide logistical support for events and campaigns
  • Develop and maintain digital systems for outreach contact management
  • Create content for FMM development activities
  • Conduct analysis on potential FMM partnerships
  • Represent Food Matters Manitoba at events and public education opportunities
  • Work with program staff and the administrative team to facilitate and manage volunteer opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

About You

  • Proven web and social networking capabilities
  • Knowledge of new media
  • Experience and/or training in Communications, Public Relations, Film or other applicable fields
  • Experience with creating video content or photography considered an asset
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, food security is considered an asset
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills with proven attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
  • Able to exercise independent judgment
  • High level of computer knowledge, including MS Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, etc. is considered an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset.

Internship Criteria

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) as of July 11, 2016
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
