Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a Winnipeg Food Program Intern for an internship from July 11, 2016 to January 27th, 2017. The Winnipeg Food Program Intern will work to support programs with newcomers and youth, including cooking classes, garden programs, and youth education initiatives.
This Winnipeg Food Program Internship is offered as part of Food Matters Manitoba’s Good Food Internship Program and is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada.
Internships pay $16 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay) for 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities
The Winnipeg Food Program Intern will work with the staff to support
- Coordinate events and workshops for youth and newcomer participants
- Assist with the coordination of the Newcomer Food and Nutrition Network
- Assist with cooking classes for newcomers and youth
- Assist with newcomer gardening activities
- Facilitate evaluation activities
- Support the implementation of summer youth programs
- Support project events (such as newcomer garden celebrations, cultural days, etc).
- Other duties as assigned
About You
- Knowledge of food security and community development
- Experience in community development
- Experience working with youth considered an asset
- Experience in gardening, traditional food skills, or cooking considered an asset
- Experience working in cross-cultural settings considered an asset
- High level of organization with proven attention to detail
- Ability to self-motivate and work as a team player
- Ability to multitask effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work flexible hours
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset.
Internship Criteria
All applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) as of July 11, 2016
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee status has been conferred
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
