Riverdale Immigrant Women’s Centre (RIWC) is a charitable organization with a mandate to serve South Asian and Chinese speaking immigrant women and their families by providing culturally appropriate and linguistically specific settlement support and counselling services with the use of community determined strategies, developed and delivered by immigrant women.

As part of a youth employment initiative to provide employment opportunities for youth, RIWC has a Green Community Animator position available

Reports to: Executive Director

RIWC encourages applications from diverse cultural backgrounds, visible minorities and people with disabilities and women.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the revision of the organization’s green policy & procedure manual.
  • Assist in liaising and networking with social & business groups to develop strategic partnerships.
  • Assist in influencing social & business groups within the neighbourhood to go green.
  • Support the Executive Director in identifying and developing green grants.
  • Assist in researching and developing relevant green resource materials.
  • Assist in developing a database of green groups & infrastructures within the GTA.
  • Assist in facilitating green workshops. 
  • Assist in identifying the use of green products for the agency.
  • Attend all staff and steering committee meetings as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Environmental Studies and/or related fields. 
  • Under 29 and returning to school next year.
  • A commitment to and understanding of environmental issues.
  • Demonstrated success in liaising and networking with community based groups in the Greater Toronto area.
  • Familiarity and understanding of the geographic area within which the position is based.
  • Excellent team leadership and motivation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize public events.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with desktop publishing and design programs, including Adobe Creative Suite and experience developing resources for mass distribution.
  • Knowledge of social media.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of a SouthAsian and Asian language/culture is an asset.
