Career Trek is looking for a committed individual who is passionate about empowering children
and youth to achieve their full education, career, and life potential through the development of
curricula for multiple programs.

Career Trek is a not-for-profit organization offering comprehensive career development
programs across Manitoba. Career Trek helps young Manitobans to discover their full potential
by providing them with hands-on learning opportunities designed to develop the skills,
knowledge, and values necessary for future success. These experiences help to increase
education attainment, career satisfaction, and community stewardship levels.

Reporting to the Director of Programming, the Curriculum Developer is responsible for
upgrading current, and developing new, program and project curricula. The Curriculum
Developer works in close collaboration with Career Trek staff and industry and education
professionals to create dynamic, interactive, and developmentally appropriate career
development-focused lessons for Career Trek’s seven programs.

The Curriculum Developer:

  • develops and modifies curricula for participants aged 10 – 21;
  • engages in extensive research to ensure that lessons are realistic, relevant, and of the
  • highest quality;
  • ensures that curriculum materials reflect organizational beliefs, values, and goals;
  • further develops a formal lesson format and Curriculum Department structure;
  • establishes and maintains a good working relationship with industry partners, postsecondary institutions, and their respective departments;
  • works with Career Trek’s Program Managers, program partners, and instructors to develop curriculum;
  • aids in the planning and execution of instructor training prior to the start of
  • programming;
  • provides sound leadership to further Career Trek’s culture, mission, vision, and
  • statement of beliefs;
  • updates and implements the evaluation system for part-time staff curriculum processes
  • and practices;
  • is a dynamic team-player with a demonstrated history of professional innovation who feels a passionate commitment to Career Trek’s vision, mission, and beliefs;
  • ensures the continual safety of participants and staff by following Career Trek’s risk management guidelines and incorporating these processes and policies into curricula;
  • develops relationships and works respectfully with the Aboriginal community—being sensitive to the issues related to First Nation residents on reserve and those living within the city;
  • strengthens relationships with post-secondary partners while working collaboratively on the development of curricula; and
  • role models and encourages professional conduct and a strong work ethic to deliver the highest quality product.

Experience

  • Awareness of Career Development theory and practice and an understanding of how to include them in a curriculum development context.
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Demonstrated human resource leadership skills and the ability to manage, support, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience and / or knowledge of Career Development theory and practices is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Career Cruising software is an asset.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets: tracking expenses, reporting variances between actual and budgeted expenses, following-up on outstanding purchase orders is an asset.

Requirements

  • A relevant post-secondary degree or diploma with related professional experience.
  • Ability to travel out of province is required.
  • Ability to work long hours in an office environment.
