DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.
1 Year part-time (25 hours/week) position - with possible extension, based on funding
Job Objectives and Responsibilities:
- Community Events –
To organise and manage the DMSMCA 5 annual signature community events as well as other occasional events and youth and recreation activities, in association with other staff, local residents and DMSMCA Events and Outreach Community Committee and to carry out evaluations of the implementation of these plans.
Tasks will include:- planning, organizing and putting on the events;
- promotion and outreach to the community and community partner organizations;
- approaching other organizations and businesses for sponsorship and donations;
- organizing and facilitating committee meetings;
- liaising with organizing committee; recruiting community volunteers;
- managing community volunteers;
- helping to organize youth and recreation workshops and events.
- Communications and Outreach –
To maintain DMSMCA’s current outreach resources.
Tasks will include:- Producing the DMSMCA Quarterly Newsletter – (compiling, writing and editing, layout and design, soliciting advertising);
- Producing (in collaboration with Spence Neighbourhood Association) Our West Central Times Newspaper quarterly - (compiling, writing and editing, layout and design, soliciting advertising and articles);
- Updating the DMSMCA Website, on a regular basis (no HTML required);
- Updating the DMSMCA Facebook Page, on a regular basis;
- Organising and sending out the DMSMCA Weekly Digest (weekly email);
- Designing event posters and flyers;
- Networking with various community partners to support the work of DMSMCA in the community.
Qualification, Knowledge and Experience:
- Background in community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
- Event planning and organizing;
- Project Management;
- Community development approaches and practices;
- Strong organisational skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong collaboration and networking skills;
- Report writing;
- Ability to work independently;
- Understanding and appreciation of inner city communities; and
- Computer capability
- Some knowledge of desk top publishing /design etc. (posters, flyers, newsletter)
- Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
- Experience working with volunteers
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Assets:
- Public consultation methods;
- Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents);
- Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle; and
- Knowledge of CED principles.

Wage: $16.00 / hour
Training, in support of the position, as well as extended health benefits will also be provided.
Hours of Work:
Up to 25 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a one year 25 hour/week position, with a strong possibility of renewal, depending on funding availability.
Start Date: To start immediately.
