POSITION: COMMUNITY LIAISON
Spence Neighbourhood Association is hiring a full-time Community Liaison. The Spence Neighbourhood Association (SNA) Community Liaison is the first point of contact when an individual, family, organization, business, service provider, community group, or stakeholder connects with SNA. This connection may be on the phone, electronically, by mail, or in person Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre (MERC), a community event and/or gathering, community meeting, or outreach opportunity. The Liaison greets folks with a warm welcome to SNA and MERC does their best to seamlessly link people to staff, programs, building spaces, and community resources and ensures their experiences with SNA and MERC are respectful and dignified. This increases positive involvements, communication, and relationships with community members, participants, and user groups - thus, decreasing stigmas about our neighbourhood and communities. Additionally, the Liaison is responsible for the safety and security of MERC building guests and the building in the role of Building Monitor.
The Liaison works closely with the Executive Director, Youth Programs Manager, staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, City of Winnipeg, additional SNA partners, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a mix of community and administrative experience.
SNA Community Liaison Responsibilities:
- Assists in organizing staff meeting, taking notes of the meeting, and preparation and circulation of the minutes
- Co-Facilitates the Community Incentives Program with a committee of SNA staff and Board Members
- Connects and networks with SNA partners and agencies
- Contributes content to the SNA Newsletter and Annual Report
- Coordinates SNA volunteer opportunities
- Co-Organizes and participates in SNA community meetings, activities, initiatives, programs, and events
- Greets guests in a polite, positive, and professional manner
- Handles SNA’s day-to-day office administration and communications (including phone, email, voicemail, and social media)
- Maintains a community bulletin board
- Organizes monthly meetings, circulates agendas and minutes, and keeps records of meetings and meeting documents
- Replies to and manages general information requests with the accurate information
- Seeks fundraising opportunities for Liaison projects
- Supports SNA staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers in their endeavours
MERC Building Monitor Responsibilities:
- Assists user groups or programming when needed; assists user groups with set and take down in their booking space; ensures user groups are cleaning up after themselves
- Ensures maintenance issues are dealt with promptly by the appropriate staff; tends to contractors and supports their needs; informs Building Supervisor when contractors arrive and relay necessary information and materials
- Monitors building activities; communicates daily with staff regarding building happenings
- Opens the building promptly at 9AM
- Receives and refers booking requests to the Building Supervisor
- Records number of people accessing the space
- Tidies the building and rooms; inspects and ensures display materials are a neat, appropriate for the facility, and removed when necessary; mops floor when necessary; shovels snow from front entrance and fire exists; puts ice-melter down when necessary; checks facility grounds for unsafe items and cleans them up
- Writes incident reports when necessary
Additionally:
- The Liaison participates in and exemplifies SNA and MERC's Behaviour Management Model. We strive to prevent and respond to challenging behaviours through expectations, a behaviour management model, and a restorative justice model. These are unique to our building and the programs we run. While in the MERC, everyone, including staff, volunteers, community members, children, youth, guests, etc. is expected to be engaged, respectful, accountable, and safe.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Desired qualifications:
- Be able to provide a current criminal record check and child registry check
- Be able to provide clear direction and feed back to incoming community members
- Be able to work flexibly and when needed Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in management of crises situations will be considered as an asset
- Have an in-depth understanding of inner city communities and the issues faced by the Spence community
- Have education or training in liaising, office administration, communication and community programming
- Have experience of dealing with community members of diverse interests and ethnicity
- Have experience of liaising community programs and events
- Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing Must be able to prioritize work and coordinate tasks in order to meet end results in a fast paced environment
- Must enjoy team work and be willing to assist other staff/volunteers/community members

The Employee agrees to fulfill a 32.5 hour work week. SNA agrees to pay $14-$16 per hour for a 32.5 hour workweek on a bi-weekly schedule, with hours paid as worked. Required CPP, EI, and tax deductions will be made and employer contributions will be paid. Responsibilities may require flexible hours to be worked (i.e., evenings and weekends) However, regular hours will be between 9 am and 3:30 pm Monday to Friday.
