Part Time Interim Manager, Buy Social Prairies Region (12 month maternity leave)
Oversee and manage the development of Buy Social Prairies (BSP). The project actively engages partners to make impact purchasing decisions that produce social value; facilitate employment generation for individuals facing barriers to employment; and strengthen the CED sector. Buy Social is a national brand promoting and coordinating social enterprises that links social enterprises to institutional purchasers.
Buy Social Prairies is a project of Local Investment Toward Employment (LITE) and is located at LITE’s office in the Social Enterprise Centre, 765 Main Street, Winnipeg
Qualifications/Assets: This position requires someone with basic knowledge of business and economics, an understanding of the social enterprise movement and its current position, and a capacity to make strong business relationships. A post-secondary degree is not required, but would be considered an asset. Someone with strong ties to the business community in Manitoba would thrive in this role, and particularly an individual with experience in Supply Chain Management.
Skills Required:
- Salesmanship: capacity to clearly articulate a service need, and a service provided
- Networking: capacity to meet new people in large crowds, create new relationships, and leverage existing ones
- Lobbying: capacity to speak convincingly to government representatives: municipal councillors, senior public servants, provincial and federal ministers, MLAs, MPs, supply chain managers, and business owners/operators
- Communication: can get complex ideas across without heavy use of jargon, capacity to quickly develop reports, briefing notes, and publicly present the industry
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time, make decisions, and work without supervision, but within the mandate set out by stakeholders and steering committee members
- Self-motivating: capacity to seek out new opportunities, notice gaps in the market, and for-see potential purchaser needs based on government mandates and directions
- Grant/Proposal Writing: capacity to draft and develop bid submissions and understand tender documents
Qualifications:
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Be a highly organized self-starter with excellent people skills
- Have strong oral and written communication skills, including competence with social media
- Strong business skills and knowledge of the social enterprise sector in Winnipeg
- Be experienced in Marketing/Promotions and Project Management, including planning, reporting and evaluation
- Be competent with Microsoft Office- possess a post-secondary diploma/degree in a related discipline or have a suitable combination of education and experience
- A valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle will be considered assets
Major Responsibilities:
- Project Management
- Coordinate monthly steering committee meetings, recruit new members if necessary;
- Manage BSP’s intake process, including accrediting new Social Enterprises, ensuring they meet the criteria for membership
- Facilitate and foster relationships within the existing network of Social Enterprises, and social purchasers: Government procurement departments, institutional procurement departments, and private purchasers
- Design unique training and networking opportunities for Buy Social members
- Create evaluation materials where necessary (eg. for project events), and compile results for reporting purposes
- Manage the Buy Social Prairies annual budget
- Be accountable to commitments to our primary funders, including timelines
- Promotion and Website
- Maintain and update the Buy Social Prairies website; ensure social media accounts are updated regularly with engaging content
- Create or oversee production of promotional materials
- Conduct presentations about the Buy Social Prairies as needed, to promote to businesses and organizations
- Organize and implement Buy Social networking, learning and promotion events
- Reporting
- Compile information and contribute to funder reporting (with Executive Director
- Track and report on metrics as required by Project funders
- Provide brief written updates for the BSP Steering Committee and LITE Board meetings
Start date: February 1, 2018
This is a part-time position (25-30 hours per week). Salary range from $16 to $18 per hour, depending on experience. LITE offers a health and dental benefits package. Indigenous and Metis applicants are encouraged to self-identify in their cover letter.
