Wolseley Family Place is a value-driven multi-service centre that has been providing support and resources for families for over 20 years. In this time Wolseley Family Place has established itself as a safe-space for proactive support, capacity building and advocacy for families with children under 6. Services that we offer include child care, one-on-one and group support, workshops, work experience opportunities, health services, and programing for parents and children. Our goal is community capacity building that focuses on families using the values of equity, respect, and meeting people where they are to foster positive change in people’s lives. Families are the cornerstones of communities and strong families build strong communities.
The Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director that will ensure that our core principals are reflected in every aspect of the organization. The candidate will have a proven record in the management, funding and advocacy of social services and have a demonstrated understanding of the needs and opportunities available to families in Winnipeg. The Executive Director will guide the internal operations of WFP through a collaborative approach with the staff and will represent the organization and its values in the community.
Key Responsibilities of the Executive Director
- Maintain an operational plan which incorporates the values, goals and objectives that adhere to the strategic direction of the organization
- Ensure that the operation of the WFP meets the expectations of its participants, board and funders
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of WFP
- Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of WFP’s programs, services and special projects
- Ensure and manage adequate staffing for the centre’s operation and program delivery
- Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
- Establish a positive healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation, regulations and vision
- Provide feedback, coaching and mentoring to staff to support them in their service delivery
- Administer the funds of WFP according to the approved budget and all related government legislation.
- Research funding sources and oversee the development of fund raising plans; including writing funding proposals and grants to increase the funds of the organization
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of WFP
Background
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in a voluntary/non-profit sector organization
- Previous experience supervising staff
- Program development and management experience
- Track record of securing funding and acting as a spokesperson
Required skills:
- Working knowledge of anti-oppressive perspectives
- Knowledge of leadership and management principals as they relate to nonprofit/ voluntary organizations and of ethical behaviour and business practices
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to nonprofit/ voluntary sector organizations including; employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, health coverage etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships both internally and externally
- Ability to speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
- Ability to work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve conflicts and make decisions that enhance the effectiveness of WFP
- Ability to think strategically and analytically; to assess problems, identify causes, gather and process relevant information and generate solutions
