Position Title: Community Engagement Developer (2 Positions, funding pending)
Work Hours: Daytime between 8:00 and 4:30pm
Term: 35 hours per week, April 23 to August 31 (some flexibility available)
Compensation: $13.50/hr
About this position:
Community Engagement Developers work to recruit and orient volunteers to LITE’s new volunteer program, which seeks to match volunteers who have identified barriers to employment (volunteering in administrative roles at LITE) with professional volunteers working in administration and management in the private sector.
Community Engagement Developers will work with community partner organizations to help them achieve social purchasing goals (where applicable) and support their LITE-supported employment programs by offering communications, public relations or media support. Each student will have the opportunity to design and run one social media campaign on behalf of community partners, and write two feature articles for our supporters.
Community Engagement Developers help represent LITE at key community events, and identify opportunities for LITE supporters (volunteers) to become activated in achieving LITE’s mandate of supporting employment for people with complex barriers .
Career mentoring and matching with professionals in student’s career of choice is a part of this position.
Qualifications:
- Basic writing skills and some experience with social media and public relations with an interest in developing skills in this area.
- Interest in event planning and community economic development as a career.
- Interest in how CED and a community of supporters can address barriers to employment.
- Interest in learning how barriers to employment occur at a systems level.
- Friendly with willingness to approach new people.
- Interest in developing presentations for small groups.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Willingness to work in a small team, made up of both staff and volunteers.
- Must be a post-secondary student returning to post-secondary studies in September 2018.
- Must be resident of North End and/or Indigenous, Visible Minority or new Canadian. Please self-identify in cover letter.
