Work Hours: Daytime between 8:30 and 4:30pm
Term: 30 hours per week, July 2 to August 31

About this position:
The Community Engagement Developer works with LITE supporters – from our partnering agencies, to volunteers to donors. This summer the Developer will help recruit and orient volunteers to LITE’s new volunteer program, which seeks to match volunteers who have identified barriers to employment (volunteering in administrative roles at LITE) with professional volunteers working in administration and management in the private sector.
The Community Engagement Developer also works with community partner organizations to help them achieve social purchasing goals (where applicable) and support their LITE-supported employment programs by offering communications, public relations or media support. Interest in developing social media campaigns is an important role for this position.
The Community Engagement Develop assists with event planning, particularly with LITE’s annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast. For the right candidate, the summer job can be extended into part-time employment in the fall as the Breakfast Coordinator.
Job duties:
- Support LITE staff to apply for sponsorship opportunities and recruit volunteers for LITE.
- Help plan LITE’s annual Wild Blueberry Pancake Breakfast.
- Help represent LITE at key community events.
- Identify opportunities for LITE supporters (volunteers) to become activated in achieving LITE’s mandate of supporting employment for people with barriers to employment.
Qualifications:
- Basic writing skills and some experience with social media and public relations with an interest in developing skills in this area.
- Interest in event planning and community economic development as a career.
- Interest in how CED and a community of supporters can address barriers to employment.
- Interest in learning how barriers to employment occur at a systems level.
- Friendly with willingness to approach new people.
- Interest in developing presentations for small groups.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Willingness to work in a small team, made up of both staff and volunteers.
- Must be a post-secondary student returning to post-secondary studies in September 2018.
- Must be resident of North End and Indigenous, Visible Minority or new Canadian. Please self-identify in cover letter.

Eligibility:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to
- school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- New Canadians and Indigenous people will be given preference and are encouraged to self-identify. People living in Winnipeg’s North End will be given preference.
