12-week term (30 hours/week) Green Team Position
Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews Community Association (DMSMCA) is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.
Job Objectives:
The Community Gardens Assistant will help to manage the DMSMCA community gardens program, which has over 60 garden plots at 4 different community garden sites.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting with planning, developing and implementing a garden maintenance plan;
- Assisting with repairing and painting raised beds and compost bins;
- Assisting with planting, growing, weeding and harvesting the gardens;
- Assisting in liaising with individual gardeners;
- Assisting in helping with the turning and layering of compost bins in the community gardens
- Assisting in running gardening activities for kids and teens
- Assisting with the planning, developing and implementing of summer events
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge of and experience with gardening and composting
- Ability to do daily physical labour
- Experience with power tools and construction would be an asset
- Strong organisational skills
- Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
- Positive attitude, works well independently as well as in a team environment
- Can work individually as well as cooperatively, inclusively and effectively with others
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Experience and confidence cycling and access to a bike a must
Assets:
- Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre/St. Matthews, West Central area and inner city issues
- Knowledge of CED principles
- Ability to speak another language would be an asset
- Providing an up-to-date child abuse registry check and a criminal record check
Other Information:
- Must be between the ages 16-29.

Wage: $11.50 / hour
Hours of Work: 30 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a 12-week term position.
