Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews Community Association (DMSMCA) is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards the social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.

Job Objectives:

The Community Greening and Environment Coordinator oversees the implementation of the DMSMCA Greening and Environment Program – goals, priorities and initiatives outlined under the DM/SM Neighbourhood 5 year plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support the Community Gardens program, which includes 60 garden plots in 4 community garden locations
  • Assist in supervision of summer garden staff
  • Assist with running gardening activities for kids and youth
  • Develop and present workshops on environmental topics including gardening, food security, active transportation, energy efficiency, etc.
  • Network and collaborate with local environmental and community partners, including residents, organisations, businesses and different levels of government
  • Develop and write funding proposals (in collaboration with the Executive Director) to support current and future greening and environment initiatives
  • Assisting with the planning, developing and implementing of summer events

Qualification and Experience:

  • Graduate of a post secondary institute
  • Experience with gardening, preferable with community gardens
  • Knowledge of environmental topics including active transportation
  • Experience creating and presenting workshops on environmental topics including gardening, food security, active transportation, energy efficiency, etc.
  • Experience organising and facilitating committees, chairing meetings, taking minutes, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in Community Development and Community Economic Development
  • Pro-active leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently as well as in a team

Funding requirements:

Funding is provided through the Eco Canada Internship Program. To qualify candidates must be:

  • 30 years of age or younger
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status
  • Possess a minimum of a 2-year diploma
  • Ready to work at a full-time capacity

  • Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents)

Wage: $16/ hour - health benefits provided after 3 months
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. 6-month term with a possibility of extension based upon funding
Start Date: Immediately
