Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. Is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous lead human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.
Ka Ni Kanichihk is seeking an Indigenous professional accountant to serve as on its Council (Board of Directors) and Finance Committee. The role involves governance and oversight of the organization as a member of both Council and the Finance Committee. The position will provide the opportunity to be mentored by the current Finance Committee Chair with the expectation that the successful candidate would assume the role of Finance Committee Chair in the future.
The Council is responsible for the overall governance of the Corporation. Areas of responsibility include appointing the Co-Chairs and members of Council to the various committees; assessing Council, Committees’ and the Executive Director’s performance; making by-laws respecting the administration and management of the Corporation; selecting the Executive Director and approving performance objectives; establishing with management and approving the strategic vision mission and goals, long term plan and annual business plan and monitoring performance of the plans; and ensuring all financial and compliance reporting is performed as required. The Council meets quarterly.
The Finance Committee reports to Council and is responsible for assisting the Council in fulfilling all of its financial responsibilities. Areas of responsibility include Auditor relations (audit committee role), budget recommendation and oversight, financial reporting oversight, treasury and investment governance and regulatory compliance and risk management oversight. The Committee meets quarterly prior to the Council meeting.
Qualifications:
- A professional accounting designation CPA in good standing
- Knowledge and experience in some areas of financial reporting, budgeting, treasury and investment, audit and risk management
- An interest in and commitment to Ka Ni Kanichihk’s vision, mission and goals and an Indigenous ancestry
- Experience serving on a board or committee would be considered and asset
- Experience or knowledge of non-profit organizations would be considered an asset
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong listening, interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong problem solving and resolution skills and good use of judgement
- The position requires a time commitment of approximately 8 meetings per year (Council and Finance Committee meet quarterly)
