Position Summary

The Employment Support Specialist position is designed to work with clients accessing Causeway’s employment programs with the goal of securing employment. This position is currently responsible for providing job development, carving, coaching and retention services to clients accessing the Job Quest program. This position works in partnership with the Employment Team as a whole as well as other departments in Causeway Work Centre and the community at large to provide a “Best Practices” approach to job development and assisting clients in achieving their employment goals.

In accordance with funding guidelines, the Employment Support Specialist will be responsible for achieving the set targets listed below, while providing client-centered services to both clients and potential employers in the community.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure that the policies and procedures of Causeway Work Centre are understood and followed
  • To achieve funding-related targets in job placement for clients at a rate of 12 jobs per quarter/47 peryear
  • To achieve funding-related targets in job retention– continued employment 3 months after placement at a rate of 10 jobs per quarter/37 per year
  • To assist in identifying client barriers/strengths related to employment
  • Develop and implement strategies & procedures to assist clients in achieving employment around identified barriers and strengths
  • Complete client-centered employment plan with each client
  • Accurate and timely recording of EMH entries in accordance with agency policy
  • To ensure ministry-related paperwork, statistical data & reports are completed accurately and reported in a timely manner
  • Attend team meetings, promote team-building and staff cohesion
  • To provide job development and employment support based on the client’s needs/goals
  • To be flexible and supportive to the needs and abilities of the clients served
  • To establish and maintain relationships with community businesses and perspective employers
  • To complete workplace assessments and analysis when required
  • To act as a liaison between clients and employers when necessary, to support job placement and maintenance
  • To provide job carving and on-the-job coaching as required
  • To provide client follow up/retention strategies to ensure job maintenance
  • To understand the programs & services provided by Causeway Work Centre, providing referrals and relevant information sharing with other programs/ staff when required
  • To Accurately maintain all client files including, but not limited to, all official MTCU Employment Ontario paperwork and incidental contacts such as employer contacts, community referrals, incident reports and any other relevant records within client hard copy files and the EMH database
  • To provide reports to the Team Leader Director of Programs & Services or others whenrequired.
  • To report to the Team Leader any incidents/issues/suggestions/concerns regarding clients/other programs/staff in the Work Centre
  • To be aware of the resources in the community that may be required by Causeway clients.
  • To be aware and have understanding of Employment Ontario and EOAS services and directives
  • To represent formally and informally Causeway Work Centre to the employment community
  • To keep accurate and timely statistics including but not limited to number of placements, number of calls to employers, number of site visits, and types of placements secured
  • To gather and record labour market information for a variety of industries
  • Ensure communication between programs in a timely, efficient manner
  • Provide coverage and direct service/assistance to clients accessing the Resource Centre when required
  • Any other duties & responsibilities which may be required
