The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. The Centre works from empowerment, inclusion and harm reduction philosophies to support women with concerns such as housing, income security and healing from domestic violence.

The Drop-In Assistant Coordinator supports WCWRC’s Drop-in services and community women. She is responsible for creating a welcoming environment and directing visitors and callers to appropriate staff or resources while supporting the Coordinator with planning and facilitating community events.

Start Date: July 2018
Salary: $15-$17/hr
Time requirement: 35 hours per week *Flexible availability including evenings and weekends required*
Closing date: July 4th 2018

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of drop-in services, community events, meetings and celebrations
  • Participate in grant writing and report writing to support Drop In and Centre events
  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of effective programming for the Centre’s Drop-In
  • Participate in conflict resolution processes in the Centre
  • Support the Drop-In team with the day to day activities of the Drop In (Stat collection, volunteer supervision, internal and external resource referrals etc.)
  • Answer and direct phone calls, e-mails and centre visitors
  • Attend and participate in regular staff and committee meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Post-secondary education in Community Development, Inner City Studies, or comparable program, a combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
  • Experience in working with a diverse group of people, including staff and volunteers
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of oppression and marginalization
  • Superior problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook

Preferred

  • Experience working within the non-profit sector
  • Ability to work from a multi-level approach
  • Understanding of Community Economic Development concepts
  • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
  • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
