The Director of Volunteer & Training Programs oversees two of our essential teams: the Volunteer Services and the Training Programs teams. This role is accountable for drawing the potential out of people, whether they are volunteering within the organization, or are learning within one of our various training programs.
Ours isn’t a typical workplace – our community’s needs are served by a diverse combination of paid and unpaid (volunteer) CREW members that work tirelessly to support people in need. There’s a lot of heart required to make that happen and this position harnesses that energy to get things done.
Your Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage and develop the Volunteer Services & Training Program teams, both paid & volunteer
- Develop a plan to strengthen existing and develop new processes & procedures for volunteer management and training programs; liaise with internal and external stakeholders to execute on plans
- Support the Volunteer Services & Training Program Managers in leading their teams to achieve key goals
- Manage the administrative and operational functions for the department, including: scheduling, planning, performance reviews, record keeping, reporting, program development, etc.
- Assess current volunteer management practices, and work with the team to improve the overall volunteer experience and retention
- Liaise with departments to maintain adequate volunteer levels, ensure adequate training & engagement
- Oversee the development of job-training programs, and work with the Manager and individual program leads to further develop curriculum, activities and hands-on training opportunities
- Supervise the community garden team, and ensure that our 10,000 square feet of growing space is optimized and provides an opportunity for community members to grow and harvest nutritious food
- Develop community partnerships to improve the reach and efficacy of our job-skills training programs, resulting in the growth of post-graduation employment & placements
- Provide guidance and assist toward the resolution of issues or complaints internally and externally
- Willingly lend a hand wherever it’s needed for our CREW!
Your Qualifications:
- A strong belief in the dignity of all human beings and a positive and caring approach
- Post-Secondary education in Volunteer Management, Education or related discipline strongly preferred
- A proven working knowledge of volunteer management principles
- Experience leading & mentoring a diverse workforce and a proven ability to develop a team
- Experience in a commercial kitchen and a valid Food Handlers Certificate is an asset
- Persuasive yet compassionate communication abilities, both written and verbal, are essential
- Ability to influence and motivate internal and external stakeholders toward action
- Flexibility and the capacity to change directions and address urgent operational needs
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, is required
- Ability to pass a Criminal Background and Child Abuse Registry Check is essential
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license required, and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
