Full-time Position (40 hours/week)

Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. Is a nonprofit, community based; Indigenous lead human services organization that provides a range of Indigenous identified programs and services that focus on the wholeness, wellness and that builds on the strengths and resilience of Indigenous People.

About the Role:

Ka Ni Kanichihk requires a Program Mentor to provide support services intended to improve education and employment outcomes for participants, ranging in age from 16-21 who are or have been in the care of Manitoba Child and Family Services agencies.

The successful candidate will provide one-on-one mentorship including arranging for financial assistance, supportive housing, educational and training assistance, employment placement supports, job coaching and life skills mentorship. The Mentor provides support to participants and acts as a resource to help them succeed in achieving their goals for education and employment, and ultimately to make a successful transition to living independently. You must be prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours including some weekends, and evenings.

What You Bring:

  • Relevant post-secondary education, child & youth care worker certificate, or other related combinations of education and experience
  • Two (2) years’ directly related experience working in mentorship and with youth facing systemic barriers
  • Knowledge of independent living practices and mentorship principles
  • Supportive of Ka Ni Kanichihk’s values and beliefs
  • Knowledge of issues facing youth who are transitioning from child welfare system to independence
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system and available community resources available to youth
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Experience working with high risk populations
  • Knowledge, identification and assessment of risk factors
  • Knowledge of housing and homelessness issues
  • Advocacy experience
  • Effective Time Management and high level of professionalism
  • Proficient record keeping ability including report writing, case notes and data collection
  • Strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, excellent communication both written and oral, and professional work behavior
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and participant privacy
  • Commitment to cultural reclamation practice and traditional healing practices
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skill Training an asset
