Job Description

Reporting to the Director General and providing support to Social Economy Advisor, the Social Economy Agent shall promote group entrepreneurship among the First Nations and provide technical support for Aboriginal group entrepreneurs. Working with the Social Economy Advisor, the candidate will also provide support to Community Economic Development Organizations (CEDOs) and Community Economic Development Agents (CEDAs) in order to increase awareness in the communities about group or collective entrepreneurship. The candidate will also provide the communities with a range of promotional tools and consultation services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accompaniment and appropriate orientation of entrepreneurs regarding start-up activities, business consolidation and development of group projects (ex.: non-profit or COOP).

Specific Duties

  • Working in cooperation with the Social Economy Advisor, the Agent will also help implement the First Nations Social Economy Regional Table action plan.
  • Work towards the promotion and awareness of group (collective) entrepreneurship (social economy) for First Nations communities.
  • Work with communities who are interested in developing group projects, community mobilizations, local action plans, strategic planning, and group entrepreneurship (social economy).
  • Help establish and maintain links for direct communication and trust with Aboriginal entrepreneurs, partners and First Nations communities, especially CEDOs and CEDAs.
  • Help Aboriginal group entrepreneurs develop and execute projects utilizing resources within the FNQLEDC network.
  • Based on demand or entrepreneurial needs, take into consideration all community needs and work with the Executive Management and Entrepreneurship Tehnical Advisor to provide short and/or long term recommendations and solutions.
  • Use community profile in order to identify areas for intervention by the FNQLEDC as well as local needs in terms of consultation services.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of FNQLEDC services and activities as well as any current or future programs provided by various government departments.
  • Inform group entrepreneurs, CEDOs and CEDAs about FNQLEDC services and activities as well as different programs available.
  • Poll and gather data about the training needs of group entrepreneurs and support for social economic stakeholders (CEDOs-CEDAs).
  • Develop and organize training in conjunction with the trainer.

General Duties

  • Prepare reports for management.
  • Actively take part in staff meetings: provide regular summary of current work and list of future projects.
  • Be familiar with Commission projects in order to focus energies on achieving objectives.
  • Keep up to date with fields that contribute to the improvement of the efficiency and quality of your work.
  • Present FNQLEDC services and activities to various organizations, committees or working groups.
  • Meet with clientele and present FNQLEDC mandates and activities.
  • Take part in various committees or working tables.
  • Execute any specific mandate assigned.
  • Ensure at all times harmonious communications and relationships with colleagues, members, communities and their staff.
  • Provide immediate superior with any relevant suggestion to improve work.
  • Perform any other task related to general responsibilities at the demand of the supervisor.

Conditions for Eligibility

  • Collegial studies diploma, university studies or equivalent background in any field related to administration, social sciences or economics.
  • Two years of relevant experience in promotion and awareness activities.
  • Any combination of education and experience will be taken into consideration.
  • Knowledge and experience of First Nations communities will be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English.
  • Good knowledge of IT software, such as MS Office, the Internet, email and other software applications, etc.
  • Availability for travel on a regular basis and hold a valid driver’s licence.
  • Priority shall be given to First Nations people.
