Marten Falls First Nation has the following position open for qualified applicants:

COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Economic and Business Development/Program Manager Marten Falls First Nation is an Anishinaabe First Nation located in remote Northern Ontario. The First Nation occupies communities on both sides of the Albany River, including Ogoki Post in the Cochrane District and Marten Falls in the Kenora District. The First Nation had a total registered population of 800 people, of which over 300 resides on-reserve. The Fist Nation is located on lands and waters that will be impacted by the proposed mining in the region.

The Community Economic Development Officer reports to the senior administrative officer and is responsible for facilitating community and economic development planning and initiatives; identifying and fostering community economic development opportunities; securing funding for economic development activities and programs; assisting local organizations, businesses and individuals with establishing economic development, strategic and business plans and projects; and promoting the community in order to expand economic development opportunities.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate community and economic development planning in order to identify and establish economic development wants, needs and opportunities.
  • Identify and act upon opportunities for community economic development.
  • Secure funding for economic development activities and programs.
  • Ensure there are mechanisms and services in place for local organizations, businesses and individuals with economic and community development planning, business operations and planning and other projects.
  • Promote the community in order to expand economic development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • A University Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or other related field of study.
  • Candidates with a College Diploma and extensive work experience will be considered.
  • Extensive experience in business, community economic development
  • Extensive knowledge of historic and contemporary issues First Nations and First Nations people with a focus on Northern Ontario remote factors.

Preference will be given to First Nation candidates and those with extensive experience in First Nation economic and business
development and planning.

Salary: Commensurate to successful candidate’s education and experience.
