The Leadership Training Programmer is responsible for design, implementation and facilitation of FWF’s Stage 3 Program to build relationships and mentor youth in personal and professional growth, career development, nutrition and wellness education, and life skills training as well as program evaluation, reporting and other duties relevant to sustainable urban-based food and agriculture.
Employment: Part-time term position (20 hours per week)
Start/End Date: Monday February 25th, 2019 – January 3, 2020
Hours: February to June & September to December 16-20 hours / week including daytime, evenings and some weekends; July and August 16-20 hours / week including daytime and some weekends
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement year-round programs that specifically address personal development, leadership skills and employability of FortWhyte Farms youth participants, Summer Employment Program Junior staff and Leadership Program participants;
- Work in cooperation with Farm Coordinators to plan and implement programs related to sustainability, high school curriculum, culinary arts, nutrition, safety, and personal & professional development;
- Assist in maintaining evaluation metrics of defined program outcomes and compile the findings with Farm Coordinators and Farm Manager;
- Confirm partnerships with potential agencies, businesses employers and educational institutions that can offer resources, training and off-site employment for youth;
- Plan and deliver employment workshops for Summer Employment Program;
- Plan and execute Farm-to-Fork programs, Farm Camps and other public programs;
- Assist in facilitation of Stage 1 programming as needed;
- Provide transportation for youth as needed (Class 4 license an asset);
- Assist in planning meals (recipe of the week), Community Lunch, catering and cooking as needed;
- Assist in all agricultural, landscaping, cleaning and maintenance activities as needed.
Qualifications Required:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Education, Social Work or equivalent and relevant life experience;
- Demonstrated experience leading varied client groups including under-served, diverse youth, and the Circle of Courage framework for positive youth development;
- Valid Driver’s License (Class 4 an asset) and access to private transportation – comfortable driving a 15-seat passenger vehicle is necessary;
- Satisfactory child abuse registry and criminal records check;
- Enthusiastic, genuine appreciation of FortWhyte Alive’s mission and mandate;
- Knowledge of community youth education, employment, health and wellness resources;
- Proven initiative and problem solving skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Food Handlers Certificate an asset
