DESKTOP AND NETWORK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Desktop and Network Support Technician is a team player who will provide support for all The Foundation’s computing PC’s and basic network administration. The Technician is client-oriented IT professional excited about providing service to an organization with approximately sixty staff. The Technician may be required to work evenings and weekends in order to maintain adequate levels of service.

This position requires education in computer systems, network, and security as well as experience in a client-focused environment. Experience in an IT help-desk role is an asset.

POSITION:    DESKTOP AND NETWORK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO:  DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Desktop and Network Support Technician is a team player who will provide support for all The Foundation’s computing PC’s and basic network administration. The Technician is client-oriented IT professional excited about providing service to an organization with approximately sixty staff. The Technician may be required to work evenings and weekends in order to maintain adequate levels of service.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Install, configure and maintain PC related hardware and software in compliance with related guidelines, standards & policies;
  • Assist the organizations’ user community on hardware and software issues;
  • Assist staff with the installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment and software within established standards and guidelines;
  • Work with senior IT staff and vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop/network computing equipment and software;
  • Assist senior staff in ensuring desktop computers, mobile devices interconnect seamlessly and securely with diverse systems including associated validation systems, file servers, email servers, computer conferencing systems, application servers and administrative systems;
  • Perform upgrades to systems as required, assist in developing training materials and procedures, as required, and provide training for users;
  • Assist in installation and maintenance of security-related infrastructure systems;
  • Ensure servers and desktops are patched;
  • Monitor/maintain backup systems to ensure data protection;
  • Perform basic network administration and participate in technology projects as required;
  • Participate on internal committees as required;
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

This position requires post-secondary education in the area of computer systems, networking and security. The incumbent needs to have a working knowledge of all Office 365 products and demonstrated proficiency in operating software along with a solid and demonstrated understanding of database structures.   

CREDENTIALS

There are no credentials for this position.

EXPERIENCE

The position requires 1-3 years of experience in a client-focused environment. Experience working in an IT helpdesk role is an asset.

COMMUNITY KNOWLEDGE

Community knowledge will grow with experience in the job.   It is considered an asset but not a pre-requisite.

DECISION MAKING/INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION

The incumbent will be expected to independently resolve concerns related to hardware, software, and equipment while exercising sound judgement related to the escalation of concerns.

ANALYTICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVIING

This position is responsible for identifying problems and determining solutions related to hardware and software issues to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the Foundation’s ongoing technological operations.

LEADERSHIP/INITIATIVE

This position is responsible for staying current on industry changes to assure a culture of continuous improvement.  As such, it may be called upon to research and test new products for consideration of purchase by the Director of Information Technology.

CONTACTS/RELATIONSHIPS

This position works closely with staff and has contact with a variety of service vendors.
