The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Nova Scotia (CCPA-NS) seeks a full-time Community Engagement Coordinator, based in Halifax to support its local Director with event planning, fund development, media relations and community engagement, among other assigned tasks and projects.
The Nova Scotia office of the CCPA opened its doors in 1999. With the help of our loyal supporters and research associates, we continue to raise debate and propose policy alternatives that will get us closer to a achieving a more economically and socially just—as well as environmentally sustainable—province and Atlantic region.
- Type: Full-time (35 hours), unionized position, Term (8 months)
- Duration: May 2019 - December 2019 (possibility of extension dependent on funding).
- Salary: $41,860/year + benefits ($23/hour, 35 hours/week)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate is detail oriented with an interest in building the organization through professional event planning, donor relations, and fund development. The candidate is excited by the challenge of communicating progressive policy ideas via social media and community engagement activities. The candidate is a collaborative and adaptive team player who is willing to help tackle a range of engagement work from the administrative to the creative. Candidate must be an independent worker and able to work from home.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads CCPA-NS public events by planning, designing, and producing of community events within time limits and on budget.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a fund development plan; including annual giving, special appeals, major gifts, planned giving, events, and donor stewardship.
- Undertake administrative tasks related to CCPA-NS strategic plan, including administrative project support, posting approved material to the CCPA-NS blogs, and social media feeds.
- Support for media relations including media release drafting/editing and traditional media pitch list compilation.
- Other duties as required.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal, written and digital communications skills.
- Experience writing and editing for web and social media, and communicating in an organizational voice.
- Effective time management, and ability to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently.
- Proven ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy including in grammar and punctuation.
- Understanding of web design principles and experience designing visual content for the web is an asset.
- Knowledge of, or previous work with, non-profit, social justice and labour organizations is an asset.
- Experience in media relations or previous work in the field of journalism an asset.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and commonly used internet and email applications.
- Competence in Adobe Creative considered an asset.
