Who we are:
The Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll) is a global collaboration of organisations, alliances, movements and individuals formed in 2018. We work together to change the economic system so it delivers human and ecological wellbeing. WEAll’s strategy consists of the following three key components: narratives, knowledge and power bases.
Critically, change needed will not be brought about by any single entity on its own. It requires collaboration and inspiration, sharing and co-creation. Hence the creation of new powerbases in the form of a citizens’ movement, place-based hubs and thematic clusters (e.g. the Wellbeing Economy Governments – WEGo – partnership) at the heart of WEAll’s strategy. These powerbases need to be fed both by bringing together a coherent body of existing and new wellbeing economy theory and practice as well as a compelling positive new economic narrative.

The Advocacy Officer position offers the opportunity to work on a range of efforts designed to accelerate the transition to a wellbeing economy. These efforts range from supporting the expansion of the WEGo partnership through to supporting policy development work and synthesising of existing wellbeing economy knowledge. The position is a fantastic opportunity for someone that has recently graduated or is towards the beginning of their career. You will be part of an exciting movement, working with people from all over the world who are collaborating to transform the economy.
Contract type: 10-month self-employed contract with the intention to renew and expand – funding dependent.
Remuneration: £800 to £1,000 per month dependent on experience. This figure is inclusive of all taxes for which the contractor will be responsible.
We imagine this role will take up 50% of your working time. The role may demand international travel, evening and weekend work on occasions so flexibility on time is key.
Location: While we encourage applications from anywhere in the world (working from home), we understand and appreciate the value of human connection. As such, our preference is to recruit for a person to be based in either Glasgow [Scotland] or Madrid [Spain]. We have members of the Amp team based in both locations. In Glasgow, we can provide access to a co-working space, in Madrid it would be a home working scenario.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for an organised, flexible and highly motivated individual that has a passion for economic system change. The focus for the role is to support WEAll to deliver a large project focussed on the expansion of the WEGo partnership and the development of resilience and just transition policies in a number of regions around the world.
Key activities and deliverables:
Expansion of WEGo and Resilience and Just Transition Policy project
Research
- Create country briefings on wellbeing economy relevant context and possibility in relevant regions
- Conduct power analyses of stakeholders in those regions and identify key stakeholders
- Coordinate meetings and government liaison and engagement in WEGo (and prospective) members
- Other research as directed and ongoing support for the Knowledge and Policy Lead as necessary
Policy development
- Support the Knowledge Manager to develop wellbeing economy (especially resilience/just transition) materials in conjunction with legal and WEGo government policy advisors
- Support liaison with policy practitioners in relevant WEGo territories to accelerate the appreciation of the need for, adoption of, and implementation of policies necessary for a just transition to a wellbeing economy
- Work with WEAll communications team and other colleagues to promote and disseminate these papers
- Other policy related task as necessary.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Undergraduate degree (or higher) in relevant area such as economics, politics, sustainability or sociology
- Good research and synthesis skills
- Experience of government economic policy making
- Good writing and communications skills
- Ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a global team
- Comfortable to work with colleagues and stakeholders in different time zones
- Reliable and professional in external engagement and an enthusiastic and collegial team player
- Fluent in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable
- Experience of government economic policy development processes
- Experience of resilience and just transition
- Knowledge of alternative economic policies
- Work with economically disempowered communities
- Work experience in any of the WEGo countries (and prospective members) – Iceland, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, California, Canada, Finland, Germany
