The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Manitoba office (CCPA – MB) is an independent, non-partisan research institute concerned with issues of social, economic and environmental justice.

The Manitoba Research Alliance (MRA) is a group of academic researchers, students, and community and government partners producing community-based research on solutions to Indigenous and inner-city poverty. The MRA, hosted by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Manitoba, has held three successful Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grants and has been successful on a fourth partnership grant “Community-Driven Solutions to Poverty: Challenges and Possibilities”, to begin July, 2020.

The Project Coordinator of the MRA is an employee of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Manitoba office and oversees the administration of the MRA SSHRC grant and funds. This is a full time position (35 hours/ week) for the life of the grant (seven year term position).


Responsibilities

Managing grant

  • Liaising with the Principal Investigator and each of the leads of the four research streams.
  • Support the MRA Research Committee, organize meetings, prepare minutes and follow up.
  • Update project management protocols including the establishment of an internal database, template contracts, forms and protocols.
  • Administer of project grants, including contracts, liaising with academic and student researchers, overseeing project finances, liaising with Universities, overseeing the maintenance of records and lists, monitoring progress on projects.
  • Liaising with SSHRC regarding addition of new partners and/or co-investigators, including preparation of documentation.
  • Tracking publications, including receipt of deliverables, sending for peer review, editing and ensuring timely release of deliverables.
  • Liaising with MRA partners (community; university; government).

Reporting to SSHRC

  • Drafting and finalizing any preliminary reporting as may be required for sign-off by the Principal Investigator, sending to SSHRC as directed.
  • Drafting Partnership Contribution forms, sending to partners for signing and forwarding to SSHRC (yearly).
  • Preparing the Midterm Report for sign-off by the Principal Investigator and sending to SSHRC (year 3).
  • Drafting and finalizing the Final Report at end of project.
  • Maintain evaluation documentation (media; publications, videos and all forms of dissemination; numbers of students; time meeting with partners, etc.) in preparation for SSHRC reporting.
  • Helping the Financial Director draft and finalize the form 300 to SSHRC once a year.
  • Ongoing communications with SSHRC.

Communications / events

  • Develop a Knowledge Mobilization (KM) plan with the MRA Research Committee, update annually and track results.
  • Support KM with MRA funded research.
  • Work with the MRA Research Committee to ensure the website meets current needs, with professional supports. Managing and updating the website as needed using Word Press.
  • Copy edit research papers and/or arrange for developmental/ copy edits for final publication.
  • Work with Research Committee to develop and organize events, colloquia, community forums and report launches. Prepare media releases.

Financial Management & Bookkeeping

  • Oversee financial management and reporting (with the assistance of the financial administrator), including tracking leveraged funds.
  • Basic bookkeeping.

Skills and experience

  • Undergraduate degree in social sciences or public administration with preference given to graduate degree.
  • Strong project management, administrative and budgetary skills.
  • Experience with Database management, Excel, WordPress and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of SSRHC and University research protocols.
  • Understanding of research methods.
  • Understanding of complex challenges facing those living in poverty, including in the inner-city and throughout Manitoba and First Nation communities.
  • Understanding of public policy frameworks and intersectional analysis.
  • Experience working with academics, university bureaucracies and community-based organizations.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work collaboratively with committees.
  • Strong oral and written communicator.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and individuals and facilitate positive relationships.

This position is part of the current collective agreement between CCPA and UNIFOR. The salary is $50,846 for the first year for a 35 hour work week, with annual increases for the cost of living. Pay is consistent with the wage scale for CCPA Manitoba. The successful candidate will have the option of enrolling in our health benefits program, pension. All other conditions of employment are outlined within the collective agreement. This is a term position for the seven year time period of this grant.
