The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is Women-Centered and works from empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level and community economic development philosophies to support women experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use or participating in sex-trade work.
Position Summary: WCWRC has partnered with Spence Neighbourhood Association to coordinate a warming centre in the west central neighbourhood to support folks experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The Warming Centre Coordinator will work in partnership with SNA staff to oversee the day-to-day operations. The Warming Centre Coordinator will build relationships with community members and assist participants to meet their day to day needs.
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: $18-20 per hour
Time requirement: 37.5 hours per week *Term position until March 31, 2021*

Duties and Responsibilities:
Warming Centre
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone in the warming centre
- Lead a team of diverse staff; ensure staff are provided with appropriate level of supervision and direction
- Maintain a positive and constructive working relationships with coworkers through teamwork, collaboration, and debriefing
- Ensure warming centre statistics are consistently tracked
- Oversee the distribution of winter gear, hygiene and harm reduction supplies
- Ensure warming centre statistics are consistently tracked
- Ensure that the space is clean, well maintained and organized; Perform cleaning tasks including dishes, laundry, sweeping, and replacing sharps containers etc.
Participant Support:
- Build relationships with participants
- Identify, intervene and effectively resolve emergency, crisis and conflict situations
- Provide support and referrals to vulnerable individuals compassionately and non-judgmentally while maintaining strong personal boundaries
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Urban and Inner-City Studies, Conflict Resolution or Community Development; a combination of relevant education and life experience may be considered
- Demonstrated crisis intervention training and experience
- Strong understanding of empowerment and harm reduction philosophies
- Strong supervision and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
- Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work in a respectful and cooperative manner with co-workers, and centre participants
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals
- Well-developed computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
Preferred
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Ability to work from a multi-level approach
- Understanding of Community Economic Development concepts
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
