Future Hope Director 

Future Hope Inc. is seeking an experienced candidate to fill our fulltime Future Hope Director  position. The leading role is to advance the organization’s vision, mission, and goals, implement its Strategic Plan, find new revenue streams and effectively manage its resources to nurture the growth of Future Hope. 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Future Hope Director is responsible for the overall management and supervision of Future Hope’s programs, strategic direction, policies, and directives. The Future Hope Director will be thoroughly committed to Future Hope’s mission and must have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

Future Hope is looking for candidates who can:   

  • Work towards the vision of the organization and commit to providing exceptional support and service in all areas of the organization.
  • Provide leadership in managing, evaluating, and directing all programs and activities of Future Hope, including the development and maintenance of effective administrative systems for community and program development, human resource management, facilities management, fund development and administration. 
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs and services including program volunteer recruitment.
  • Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery.
  • Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices, evaluation and data collection of program outcomes.
  • Work with staff and the Board (Fund Development Committee) to prepare a comprehensive budget and secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization; research funding sources, oversee the development of fundraising plans and write funding proposals to increase the revenue-base of the organization.
  • Communicate with the Board and Committees and all other stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent with a focus in program management or community development project management or a related discipline such as Social Work, Counselling, Addictions and Human Resources; certification, bachelor’s or master’s degree in such disciplines considered an asset, or equivalent professional work experience. 
  • Possess knowledge and/or understanding of diversity, inclusion and Indigenous perspectives; prior cultural awareness and/or sensitivity training an asset.
  • A visionary who understands how to set a plan, and how to lead and articulate its execution in a clear and concise manner.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive senior management experience in a non-profit organization preferable.
  • Strong understanding of business management, financial, budgeting and leadership principles.
  • Experience in fundraising and sound financial practices desirable. 
  • Can speak and write English at a high proficiency level; can develop presentations, generate reports to multiple stakeholders. 
  • Experience building relationships, collaborating and negotiating with multiple stakeholders; can consult and liaise with community organizations and businesses.
  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with officials from federal and provincial correctional institutions.
  • Experience working with the media considered a definite asset. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Time, project and priority management skills. 
  • Ability to analyze processes and information, identify problems and trends, and develop effective solutions and strategies.
  • Proven experience managing a team and would enjoy working in a small, focused team environment. 
  • Experience using computers for a variety of tasks; competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of Quick Books a definite asset; able to maintain an electronic filing system. 
  • A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Is double Covid-19 vaccinated per public health orders; proof of vaccination required.

Job Description: 

  • Collaborate closely and report to the Board of Directors and Committees, seek their involvement in a) policy decisions, b) succession recruitment and onboarding of volunteers for Board and Committee roles and functions, and c) fundraising initiatives to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with Board and Committee Chairs to prepare meeting agendas and supportive documentation; attend Board and Committee meetings and write meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate strategic planning activities and implement Future Hope’s Board approved Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee the financial system, monitor revenues and expenses, monitor and evaluate bookkeeping services to provide timely financial reporting to the Board, Committees and other stakeholders. 

  • Collaborate with Treasurer, Bookkeeper, and Fund Development Committee Chair to coordinate annual budget, fundraising and monthly and quarterly financial reviews, and periodic forecast updates for the Board and Committees.
  • Oversee fund development initiatives to increase Future Hope’s revenue streams.
  • Oversee and report on the organization’s program outcomes results to Board of Directors and stakeholders.
  • Hire, train, motivate and coach employees as they provide attentive, efficient service and support to program participants, assessing employee performance, providing helpful feedback and mentoring/training opportunities, terminating staff when required. Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of program volunteers by staff. 
  • Supervise and collaborate with staff in planning, organizing, developing and delivering Future Hope’s services and programs. Implement continuous improvement practices by engaging staff in analyzing information and processes to develop more effective and efficient processes and strategies.
  • Make certain that programs are properly provisioned and staffed to ensure health and safety for program participants, staff and program volunteers. 
  • Be available, on short notice, to help staff with emergencies.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with officials from federal and provincial correctional institutions.
  • Resolve conflicts or complaints from employees, program participants and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as Future Hope spokesperson to community groups, the media, and the public.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various community organizations, agencies, businesses, governments and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Future Hope’s mission.
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Review and update all Future Hope documents/materials/manuals yearly.
  • Administer employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation; ensure staff and program volunteers follow Future Hope’s policies and procedures. 


Salary range:  $50,000 to $65,000
