Education Stream
CANDO and the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) have merged together to offer an online Introduction to Community Economic Development (ACED) 100 Course. Students will have the opportunity join together in a classroom throughout the conference and in conjunction with online learning. If you think this course is going to benefit your career - register today!
Golf Tournament
The 6th Annual NIEEF Golf Tournament will kick off of on Sunday, October 5th at Lafleurs Golf Club. Space is limited to 144 players on a first come first serve basis; and for the price of $125, each golfer will be competing for prizes in various categories & will be entitled to receive: 18 holes of Texas Scramble golf excitement; round trip transportation to & from the course; a golf cart; a chance to win amazing prizes donated by our generous stakeholders; and a delicious dinner after the golf tournament. Community Tour & Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The AGM will take place on Monday, October 6, 2008. This year conference delegates will have an opportunity to partake in a community tour of Kahnawá:ke followed by the AGM. The Kanawake Marina, located on the island of Tekakwitha will be this year's host for the AGM. The meeting will be preceded by a traditional lunch.
Natural Resources Tour
The October 6th afternoon tour will take conference delegates to Forintek in Pointe Claire, QC. Forintek Division is Canada's national wood products research institute. Its role is to support the forest products industry in optimizing manufacturing processes, extracting higher value products from the available resource and meeting customer's expectations of performance, durability and affordability.
Icebreaker
This year's Icebreaker Reception will be hosted at the Montreal's McCord Museum of Canadian History - home to collections of costumes, paintings, art and Aboriginal objects. Come and join us for an evening of socializing and networking accompanied by great food and entertainment. Transportation to / from the museum will be provided.
Trade Show / Artisan Show & Sale
The Trade show / Artisan show & sale will be held at the Delta Centre-Ville from October 6th to 8th, 2008.
Community Cultural Event
Knights of Columbus Hall located in Kahnawá:ke will open its doors to host this year's Community Event. Delegates will get a chance to enjoy a traditional meal along with entertainment provided by Bear Fox & The Ahkwesahsne Women Singers and comedian DerRic Starlight. Transportation to / from the hall will be provided.
National Youth Panel
The 4th Annual National Youth Panel will be held during the CANDO Conference & AGM on October 8th, 2008. Be prepared to be motivated and inspired by the words of the six panelists who will come to the conference from across Canada. Each one of them will share how they are making a difference in their communities through their many talents, strengths and challenges.
Economic Developer of the Year Award Presentations
When we see success - we like to acknowledge it. Four outstanding examples of Aboriginal economic development will be recognized and awarded for their hard work and dedication this year.
