The MUNHA Interim Manager leads and directs the Manitoba Urban Native Housing Association (MUNHA), a not-for-profit, non-governmental housingassociation which promotes the needs of Aboriginal housing throughout the urban areas of Manitoba.

This role will contribute to MUNHA's success as a recognized Aboriginal housing leader by delivering quality work in the service areas of:

  • lobbying the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal governments to provide for greater units of space for urban people of Aboriginal descent,
  • assisting governments in the appropriate allocation of those spaces in a self-government context,
  • facilitating the resolution of systemic and ongoing problems with the delivery of programs,
  • facilitating exchange of information between the member organizations; and
  • providing a forum for the review of housing needs of urban people of Aboriginal descent and determining the appropriateness of further organizations to avoid duplication of services.

This position requires an innovative thinker and an energetic action-oriented person who is passionate about advancing pollution prevention and sustainability practices

Project/Program management

  • Provide and promote high standards of professionalism, integrity and
    leadership throughout the life of projects.
  • Work closely with the MUNHA membership, Aboriginal community, partners,
    and stakeholders to design, develop and implement comprehensive strategies
    for increasing Aboriginal housing into organizational decision-making.
  • Supervise research and analysis into complex Aboriginal housing policy
    arenas.
  • Direct interdisciplinary teams to conduct research oriented projects.
  • Develop and implement projects with other partners and stakeholders.
  • Edit and provide guidance to reports and presentations.
  • Manage projects to ensure timely delivery of high quality products.

Strategic planning

  • Setting strategic direction for MUNHA's business operation;

Financial management

  • Preparing annual budget and financial projections, and overseeing monthly
    financial transactions.
  • Seeking and securing government, private and corporate funds.
  • Estimating, scheduling, measuring and controlling project tasks, costs
    and business risk for all of MUNHA's initiatives.

Capacity Building

  • Prepare and deliver a lobbying strategy to promote Aboriginal housing to
    elected and non-elected public officials.
  • Representing MUNHA at conferences, meetings, working groups and
    committees introducing concepts, tools and skills on Aboriginal housing.
  • Deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences that promote
    Aboriginal housing and MUNHA services
  • Collaborate with multiple partners on advancing MUNHA locally,
    regionally, nationally and globally.

Business Development

  • Identify creative and innovative business development opportunities for
    the MUNHA organization.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with industry, government and
    non-government organizations.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement in the delivery of MUNHA
    services. Lead campaigns, seminars and community engagements on a local,
    regional and national basis.
  • Manage a proposal development process including identifying new business
    opportunities, writing proposals and presenting them to clients and funding
    bodies.

Human resources

  • Hiring, coordinating and motivating a multidisciplinary team of full-time
    staff and part-time contractors;

Governance

  • Report to an Interim Board of Directors.

Essential Characteristics

Education, experience, essential skills and abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project and business management principles, methods and techniques
  • Experience in the development, implementation and promotion of Aboriginal
    housing policies, programs and procedures will be required. Supervisory and
    management experience is essential.
  • Experience in writing and submitting project proposals and bids for
    submission to funding organizations.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with a variety of persons and organizations
    having diverse issues, concerns, and agendas.
  • Knowledge and ability to coordinate meetings deliver presentations and
    collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and ability to lead; think creatively; pro-actively adapt to
    changing environment; act decisively, and inspire and empower others.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise on Aboriginal housing is
    essential for credibility.
  • Project organization and management skills.
  • Effective verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing capabilities.
  • Thrive in a changing, challenging and face-paced work environment.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, WordPerfect, E-Mail packages,
    QuickBooks (some knowledge).

    The successful candidate must be a highly motivated, enthusiastic, an
    innovative thinker, and entrepreneurial in developing project ideas and
    proposals to advance Aboriginal housing. Remuneration arrangement is to be
    negotiated based upon experience and qualifications.
