SUMMER PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Job Description
The St. Matthew's Maryland Community Ministry Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting people in the West Central area of inner city Winnipeg to take action towards a better quality of life through building capacity. This will be done through using a community development approach in community gardens, family outings and events. The Coordinator will work with community residents, leaders, and various community agencies to:

Coordinate and supervise the Urban Green Team and the Summer Program:

  • Summer community gardens - also participate in planting, caring for, and harvesting;
  • Family outings and events - including recreation activities, outings, and community neighbourhood cleanup

Network/liaison with appropriate community groups.

Maintain accurate records of all aspects of the project including monthly and final reports to Board and budgetary data.

Qualification:

  • Knowledge and experience in Community Development
  • Knowledge and experience in supervising young staff and volunteers
  • Knowledge of organic gardening
  • Ability to do physical labour all day
  • Ability to keep accurate financial records
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Must provide a Police check and consent to a Provincial child abuse registry check

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the West Central area and inner city issues
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience with community gardening
  • Valid driver's licences and occasional access to a vehicle

The job begins April 27 and ends Sept. 19/09. Salary is $14 - 16 per hour, dependent on funding and experience. The hours of employment are 30 hours per week from April 27 to August 22 and 16 hours per week from August 23 to Sept. 19/09.
