DANIEL MCINTYRE / ST. MATTHEWS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (DMSMCA)

DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities:


1. Community Events -
To organise and manage the DMSMCA spring / summer / fall community events at the Orioles Community Centre, in association with local residents and housing stakeholder and to carry out evaluations of the implementation of these plans.
Tasks will include:
• planning, organizing and putting on the events;
• promotion and outreach to the community and community partner organizations;
• approaching other organizations for sponsorship and donations;
• organizing and facilitating committee meetings;
• liaising with organizing committee; recruiting community volunteers;
• managing community volunteers.

2. Community Gardens -
To organised and manage the DMSMCA community gardens (approximately 20 plots) and community compost program at the Orioles Community Centre, in association with the local garden committee and local residents.
Tasks will include:
• planning, developing and implementing a garden plan;
• constructing and managing construction of raised beds and compost bins;
• planting, growing, maintaining and harvesting the gardens;
• organizing and facilitating committee meetings;
• liaising and assisting the garden committee and individual gardeners; and
• organizing and facilitating a series of gardening and composting workshops throughout the summer

Qualification and Experience:

Bachelor of Arts and/or Master of Urban Planning or Community Development Worker Diploma and/or equivalent education and experience.

Experience:
Two - three years of related work experience in community development with particular experience in community outreach and event organizing.

• Background in community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
• Event planning and organizing;
• Project Management;
• Community development approaches and practices;
• Strong organisational skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong collaboration and networking skills;
• Public consultation methods;
• Report writing;
• Ability to work independently;
• Understanding and appreciation of inner city communities; and
• Computer capability

Assets:
• Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents); and
• Knowledge of CED principles.

Wage:
$15.00 / hour

Hours of Work:
Up to 30 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a six month term position. Continuation of the position depends on funding availability.

To start immediately.
