Job Responsibilities
The Olds Institute for Community & Regional Development (OICRD) is hiring for this new full-time position. The Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) will be responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring community and economic development in order to secure opportunities for sustainable economic and business development and increased local employment.
Reporting to the OICRD Board of Directors, the successful applicant will work with the Board and its seven piller committees to facilitate community and economic development planning and initiatives, identify and foster community economic development opportunities, secure funding for economic development activities and programs, assist local organizations, businesses and individuals with establishing economic development plans and projects, and promote the community in order to expand economic development opportunities. Key areas of responsibility will include economic and business development, research, liaison among stakeholders, marketing and promotion, administration, volunteer support, and governance. All of these activities will be carried out in alignment with Sustainability Principles.
Qualification and Experience:
Preference will be given to applicants with experience with an understanding of Sustainable Community Economic Development theories and practices, and knowledge of formal and informal political processes. Applicants must possess a high degree of personal initiative and confidentiality, must demonstrate strong leadership, advocacy and diplomacy skills, have excellent organizational and communications skills, and be proficient in research and analysis. A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office (spreadsheet, word processing, PowerPoint, graphics programs) is required. The ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a busy environment is essential.
