WBDC is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates neighbourhood renewal in our inner-city community. WBDC works with residents and stakeholders toward environmentally sustainable, social and economic revitalization of the West Broadway neighbourhood.
The West Broadway Development Corporation's Greenspace Workers will maintain green spaces in our inner-city neighbourhood. The Greenspace Workers will be supervised by the Community Garden Coordinator.
The goals of these positions are:
- To maintain green spaces owned or supported by WBDC
- Support neighbourhood revitalization activities in West Broadway
- Support the development of two new community gardens in West Broadway
Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing green spaces (ie mowing, weeding, planting etc...)
- Work with community stakeholders and volunteers to develop two new community garden green spaces
- Support neighbourhood revitalization through maintaining public spaces, litter patrol, addressing graffiti etc...
- Helping WBDC office with general maintenance (painting, office organizing)
Qualifications:
- Experience/ knowledge of gardening, composting, landscaping, and community relations
- Knowledge of inner city issues and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
- Problem-solving skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, pro-active leader, positive attitude, enjoys taking initiative, works well independently and in a team
- Aged 16 - 24
Salary and hours of work:
$9/hour; 35 hrs/week for 10 weeks. Regular hours: Monday - Friday 9 - 5. Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
Terms of work:
These positions are funded by Manitoba Citizenship, Education and Youth Urban Green Team. The funding stipulates that the employee must be between 16 - 24 years of age at the time of hire.
Preference will be given to youth living in the West Broadway neighbourhood.
