The Manitoba Food Charter is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Manitobans about food security and sustainability of food systems in Manitoba. The Manitoba Food Charter Inc. is seeking a Food Security Network Assistant. This is a ten week position, 35 hours per week, $12/hr from June 15th - August 28, 2009. Interviews will take place the week of June 8th with a start date of June 15th, 2009.
Job Description
- Create and maintain Farmers' Market Displays. Maintain presence at Farmers' Markets with displays
- Assist in the development of Manitoba's Food Security Network through maintenance of directory and working with the Community Liaison and Communications Coordinator
- Promote healthy eating through dialogue and education resources through maintenance and content development of website
- Other projects as assigned.
The goal of this position is to assist in the development of Manitoba's Food Security Network and promote healthy eating though various mediums: dialogue, displays, and the website.
This position will provide greater knowledge about the stakeholders involved in Manitoba's food system and the opportunity to work with others in the organization. There will be opportunities to for peer learning activities as well as career advice, feedback and guidance.
The successful applicant must be available for Saturday Farmers Markets and occasional evening farmers markets with a valid drivers licence and preferably access to a vehicle.
Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
- Have a strong-interest in and knowledge of Community Food Security issues
- Strong organisational skills with proven attention to detail
- Able to exercise independent judgment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- High level of computer knowledge, Internet, Word and Excel
- Be self motivated and a team player
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines
Participants must also meet the following the criteria:
- between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- legally entitled to work in Canada
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
