Background
This position is offered through the Canadian CED Network's CreateAction internship program with funding from Service Canada, the only national internship program that provides relevant six-month paid work experience placements for young people who have a career focus in CED.The Canadian CED Network is a practitioner-based, membership-driven organization. In Ontario its mission is to help CED organizations across the province to strengthen their communities and find solutions to local problems.
The Hearst and Area Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) is an arm's length organization of the Town of Hearst. Its mission is to pro-actively foster an environment attractive to community and private sector growth and development. Its goal is to promote employment growth and economic diversification. HEDC is a member of the Canadian CED Network.
This position is a joint position with HEDC and the Canadian CED Network. The intern's time will be split between working with HEDC to... (2 days/week), the Canadian CED Network to expand the Northern Ontario CED Network (2 days/week), and CreateAction's National Youth CED Engagement project (1 day/week). This placement is fully subsidized by the Canadian CED Network.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Canadian CED Network
- Handling logistics and communications for organizing telelearning sessions, meetings, and other learning activities based on the interests of members of the Northern Ontario CED Network
- Coordinate outreach work and membership recruitment campaigns
- Develop content from Northern Ontario for the Canadian CED Network's Ontario regional newsletter
Hearst EDC
- Updating information in the asset inventory of the Town of Hearst
- Assisting in project management tasks
- Coordinate the creation of a steering committee for an Energy Cooperative within the town of Hearst.
THE CED PROGRAM ASSISTANT IS EXPECTED TO
- Be committed to providing excellent services to CCEDNet's members
- Provide administrative assistance to the Ontario Regional Coordinator and the Hearst Economic Development General Manager
- Work closely with all CCEDNet's and HEDC staff, members, partners and stakeholders
INTERN QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory
- Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 15-30
- Be out-of-school
- Have a college or university degree
- Be Canadian citizens or legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Post-secondary education in a related field of study
Preferred
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and French
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience conducting research and writing reports
- Proficiency in managing websites
- Experience working in non-profits or community-based organisations
- Experience working in an office environment
- Knowledge of community economic development theory and practice
- Adaptable to a new fast-paced work environment
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position based in Hearst
- Requires extensive computer use
- 30 hours per week - involves overtime work at peak periods
- Some travel may be required
