Business is Jammin’-Youth Coordinator
Business is Jammin’ is a youth initiative strategy of the Black Business Initiative. The goal of Business is Jammin’ is to introduce black youth to entrepreneurship as a viable career option while simultaneously instilling business skills that will enable them to broaden and develop their future career goals, in addition to making BIJ a place “where innovative ideas meet potential for successful black youth development”.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing all Business is Jammin’ components targeting the 9-25 year old age group. The coordinator will be under the direction of the Director of Client Development, and will also be responsible for:
• Implementing existing BIJ programs throughout schools and the community
• Creating awareness of BIJ programs through social media and other creative outlets
• Delivering workshops/presentations to youth as part of BIJ
Requirements:
The incumbent must be a recent graduate from University or Community College. Must have a background in community economic development, and experience dealing with youth. Must possess excellent; verbal, written, organizational, time management, and communication/presentation skills, & should be familiar with; MS office & outlook, budgets, general data entry and possess a good understanding of financial statements. Experience in business is an asset. Flexibility to travel throughout the province is a must.
Applicant Criteria:
The position is funded under a special program of the Federal government. Under the funding agreement, the successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
• Be between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
• Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
• Be a post-secondary college or university graduate and out of school
• Not be receiving Employment Insurance benefits
• Be under-employed or unemployed
• Not previously have participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
• Applications are particularly encouraged from individuals who are immigrants, have a disability or are of Aboriginal identity
Renumeration:
• $15/hr (37.5 hrs/wk)-paid Bi-Weekly
*Note: This is a temporary internship position (for recent graduates) for 6 mths.
