The Institute for Northern Research and Development (INORD) at Laurentian University in Sudbury seeks an intern that will assist INORD researchers in supporting Community–based Economic Development and social development. He or she will participate in building a network of researchers and organizations and in conducting research. One project will focus on understanding the potential of the arts community to contribute to value-added activities that diversify employment and income in resource-based communities. The communities will all be in Canada’s Boreal-Shield region. The intern will also help us support the growing but fragmented movement to promote local control of forests and ecologically responsible forest development.
This position is part of CreateAction, the Canadian CED Network Work Experience Program, funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
The Criteria:
- between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Legally entitled to work in Ontario and Canada
- a post-secondary college or university graduate
- can demonstrate a lack of job or being underemployed in Community Economic Development and the particular areas of the study, but can also demonstrate that working in CED is a career goal.
- the funding programme stipulates that applicants cannot be collecting EI at the time of their application.
- has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
- the funding programme has specific targets around hiring of visible minority, aboriginal and disability candidates
- proficiency in written and spoken French an asset
- proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- ability to work independently and under supervision
